POCO was introduced as a flagship killer brand with the iconic POCO F1 aka POCOPHONE F1. But Xiaomi did not release the much-awaited successor – POCO F2 the next year. Instead, it spun off the division into an independent brand focussed on budget handsets in 2020. In the same year, the brand launched its cheapest smartphone in the form of POCO C3. This India-exclusive phone has now sold over 1 million units since its release.
The POCO C3 was unveiled in early October, a month ahead of Diwali festive season. It debuted at ₹7,499 for the base 3GB + 32GB variant and ₹8,999 for the higher 4GB + 64GB version. Soon after this handset’s release, POCO managed to sell over 1 million units of smartphones during the Flipkart Big Billion Days sale event.
Then, earlier this month, POCO slashed the price of the POCO C3 higher variant by ₹500. A few days later, the brand announced that it was the third largest smartphone brand online in India in the month of November 2020. That’s not all, POCO C3 was the number three selling smartphone during that time.
Now, the brand says that it h as sold over a million units of POCO C3
It is interesting to see POCO C3 to sell these many units despite it being online and India-exclusive handset. We think the brand achieved this because its cheapest phone, though being based on the Redmi 9 series, is cheaper and offers better value.
