Back in January, we reported that Huawei was partnering with TomTom for mapping and navigation services. In what can be termed a surprise, Huawei has now announced that HERE WeGo (HERE Maps) is now available on its AppGallery store.
Here WeGo is said to be the second-largest map service after Google Maps. It was originally created by Nokia and released for Windows Phone and the web in 2013 as a replacement for Nokia Maps. The service was later released for Android and iOS in 2015 and renamed to Here WeGo in 2016.
Huawei now joins Amazon as the other big-name manufacturer that uses the mapping service for its products. Here WeGo allows users to download maps offline and provides a free voice-navigation too. Other features include the cost of public transport tickets and fares.
If you own a Huawei phone, you can download the app from here. It is about 61MB in size.
We are not sure if Huawei is still moving forward with TomTom following the recent development but it will be great for users to have multiple options.
