With the vanilla IPhone 12 and 12 Pro reviews out of the way, it's time to turn our heads to the biggest member in the family – the iPhone 12 Pro Max. In fact, this is the biggest iPhone to date with a 6.7-inch display compared to the 6.5-inch on the previous generation.
Beyond that you are getting the same, crisp Super Retina XDR OLED panel with a resolution of 1284 x 2778px. You get a new protective layer with ceramic glass polymer, which is supposed to be tougher than before. Of course, it's still developed in collaboration with Corning.
To drive all those pixels, Apple is using its in-house A14 Bionic chip based on the 5nm process. Memory has been bumped up too – 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage as a base, compared to the starting 4GB/64GB configuration from last year.
Unfortunately, though, the battery is down almost 300 mAh despite the screen size increase now offering a 3,687 mAh charge. Only once we done with the review we will see if the new chipset's efficiency can compensate for the loss of capacity. We will also be testing the various charging combinations, including the MagSafe 2 charger.
On the camera front, things are quite interesting with a much larger main sensor with new sensor-shift stabilization as opposed to OIS and the telephoto now going up to 2.5x optical zoom. We'll make sure to take those on our usual photo trip and report back with the findings. Stay tuned – the review is coming next week!
